LUTHERAN WOMEN'S MISSIONARY LEAGUE
The Lutheran Women's Missionary (LWML) of Immanuel Lutheran Church was
organized in 1954 with the objectives of developing and maintaining a
greater mission consciousness among the women of Immanuel through mission
education, mission inspiration, and mission nationally, and internationally.
Mission education and inspiration are accomplished through devotions and
topics presented at LWML meetings and through articles and Bible studies printed
in the LWML Quarterly which is distributed four times each year.
Mission service is carried out through projects such as quilt - making
for Lutheran World Relief, and assembling school kits, health kits, and
sewing kits for world-wide distribution, and through supporting projects
such as the food pantry at St. Peters UCC in Washington and the Resell-It
Shop at Concordia Seminary.
Gathering funds for mission projects is done through mite boxes which
are available to all members of the congregation as well as to LWML members.
Based on the Biblical story of the widow's mite, LWMLers make regular
deposits of pennies, nickels, dimes, etc. , into the mite box. The mite
boxes are brought to each meeting and dedicated for use in supporting the
mission projects of the LWML. Although most mite boxes contain just "small
change", the contents of mite boxes from all over the world add up to over
$1,000,000.00 used to support world-wide mission projects each biennium.
The local LWML meets on the first Monday of the even-numbered months:
February, April, June, August, October, and December, at 7:30 p.m. Annual
activities include a salad supper and bus trip. Membership is open to
all communicant members of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
